A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was killed Monday in a head-on collision.

Deputy Manuel Viegas, 33, of Indio was responding to a domestic violence call about 1 a.m. when an oncoming car swerved into his cruiser, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Tami Low said. Viegas died instantly, she said. The driver of the other car, Jorge Alberto Martinez, 64, of Coachella, was also killed.
