Trade panel to probe complaint by Microsoft

The U.S. International Trade Commission will investigate Microsoft Corp.’s complaint against Alcatel-Lucent over a patented system that integrates phones with computers for calls, messages and videoconferences.

The commission agreed to open an investigation after Microsoft filed a complaint Feb. 16 with the Washington-based agency. The complaint targets Paris-based Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniTouch software and related computer servers that enable users get voicemail, e-mail and faxes through one system.
