Government-rebel fighting kills 42

At least 42 combatants were killed in two days of fighting between government troops and Tamil Tiger separatists in Sri Lanka, the military said.
Fighting had been concentrated in northern and eastern districts, but some of the latest deaths were in the northwest.
A military spokesman said 20 Tamil Tigers and three soldiers were killed in Mannar district, about 135 miles from the capital, Colombo.
