Tia Chucha’s at a new location

Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural, an arts and literary center recently forced to vacate its Sylmar space after five years, will reopen Saturday in a new location nearby.
Center co-founder Luis J. Rodriguez, the Los Angeles writer best known for his 1993 memoir, “Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.,” will host the 4-8 p.m. event, which will include a DJ, traditional music from Veracruz, African drumming, Aztec dance, and books for sale.
The new space, at 10258 Foothill Blvd., Lake View Terrace, is only 10 minutes from the old location, Rodriguez said in a release.
The original center, which hosted writer Sandra Cisneros and Doors drummer John Densmore, closed in February when the owner of the strip mall where it was located leased the space to a laundromat.
