Partying like -- what else? -- rock stars

Share

WITH Jack Black jamming out in the audience and a bunch of kids playing instruments onstage, the third annual Hullabaloo benefit at the Henry Fonda Theater on May 5 looked a lot like a “School of Rock” sequel. But this time, it was Flea, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who ran the show to raise funds for the school he co-founded, Silverlake Conservatory of Music.

1. Black, right, went chest to chest with emcee Woody Harrelson, while 2. Robert Downey Jr., with wife Susan, came to support his son, who played with the opening student band, Jack Bambi’s. 3. Anthony Kiedis, left, Harrelson, Chad Smith, Eddie Vedder and John Frusciante posed with Flea, who jammed with everyone, including teachers; Black’s father-in-law, jazz musician Charlie Haden; and 4. Vedder, and of course with the Chili Peppers, who played their hits, including “Scar Tissue” and “Dani California.”

Looks as if all the hullabaloo was not for naught. The event raised more than $220,000 for the school, thanks in large part to paintings that artist Damien Hirst donated, which will fund 100 scholarships for underprivileged kids. Now that rocks!

They understand the power of green

After fans suffered through Cameron Diaz’s decidedly dark period, she finally gave the people what they wanted at the “Shrek the Third” L.A. premiere on May 6: the goofy blond gal they so adore. 5. On the ogre-green carpet of the Mann Village Theatre, the honey-hued ex-model, who voices Princess Fiona in the animated film, obliged her fans. Later, she compared gams with her on-screen hubby, 6. Mike Myers. Let’s just say the funny man came up more than a little short. 7. Costar Eddie Murphy was also generous with his pen. Meanwhile Justin Timberlake, who voices an heir to the throne, offered his ex a much-discussed hug and kiss during a cast photo, as Antonio Banderas, Cheri Oteri and Amy Poehler looked on. Civil exes? Guess that’s happily ever after in Hollywood!

A time for change

It’s the end of an era for Lauren Graham, right, whose “Gilmore Girls” is coming to a close. But Graham is accustomed to new beginnings. She recently celebrated her 40th birthday, as did Maria Bello, who made the nail-biting decision to quit smoking. Despite the life changes, they looked perfectly poised at the Escada Beverly Hills flagship store reopening on May 3. But something tells us the pics from their respective 40th birthday parties were not as tame.

A British invasion of bright red lipstick

The hottest British import to land in the U.S.? No, not Posh and Becks. Boots! Although the drugstore’s party at the Sunset Tower Hotel on May 1 was a bit of a tease -- no retail store will actually open in the U.S. -- at least you can buy its line of lotions and potions at CVS and Target. That was cause enough to celebrate for guests, including Emmy Rossum, Sophia Bush and Paris Hilton (who’d better stock up while she can). Fellow English transplant 9. Kelly Osbourne, with Steve Lloyd, must have been overtaken with hometown pride, as the potty mouth kept it clean around the Boots brass. Meanwhile, 10. Christina Milian made a beeline for the sampling stations to find that perfect shade of red. Looks like 11. Ali Larter already snagged it!
