Jean Saubert, 65; won silver, bronze medals in skiing in ’64 Olympics

Jean Saubert, 65, who won two skiing medals for the United States at the 1964 Olympics, died of breast cancer Monday in Bigfork, Mont., according to the Johnson Mortuary of Kalispell, Mont.

Saubert was a member of the U.S. ski team from 1962 through 1966. She shared a silver medal (with Christine Goitschel of France) in the giant slalom and won a bronze in the slalom at the 1964 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria. She was inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1976.

Born May 1, 1942, in Roseburg, Ore., Saubert earned a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and a master’s from Brigham Young University. After her competitive ski career ended she became a teacher and ski instructor.
