Restore park correctly

Re “Don’t rush to reseed at park, experts say,” May 14

As a resident of Los Feliz, I am appalled by City Councilman Tom LaBonge’s ignorant and simple-minded approach to a Griffith Park restoration. For him to say, “I’m not afraid of nonnatives. Los Angeles is a nonnative city,” is utterly nonsensical. To compare the human residents with the plant residents shows an utter absence of respect for years of research by leading botanists and other scientists.

Griffith Park’s restoration should not be undertaken by emotional city legislators; it must be done correctly -- ecologically correctly. It’s not about being a purist; it’s about doing what is right for that space. Now is the chance to correct the errors of the old days. LaBonge must not stand in the way of that.
