Denis Watson took advantage of Eduardo Romero’s late mistakes Sunday to win the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, S.C.

Watson, from Zimbabwe, edged Romero by two strokes to become the first international Senior PGA winner since Gary Player in 1990.

Romero, from Argentina, was ahead by two shots after birdies on the 11th and 12th holes pushed him to 10 under par. Then things fell apart for Romero -- and Watson took advantage.

Romero followed a bogey on the 13th hole with a double bogey on the par-three 14th when his tee shot all but buried in soft sand. Watson made a birdie and went from one shot behind to two ahead.

Watson finished with a 68 for a nine-under total and his first victory since taking three PGA Tour titles in 1984.

Rory Sabbatini won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, beating Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer with a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff at Fort Worth.

It is the fourth career PGA Tour victory for Sabbatini, the 31-year-old South African who won the Nissan Open last year.

After beginning the final round tied at 11 under, Sabbatini, Furyk and the 49-year-old Langer closed with three-under 67s to finish at 14 under.
