Bisazza’s gold standard

At the opening party for Bisazza’s West Coast flagship store earlier this month, all that glittered really was gold. The Italian firm, known for glass tiles colored with 24-karat white and yellow gold leaf, transformed its new space on the west side of Melrose Avenue into a series of dazzling tableaux. Damask, floral, lace and Gucci-esque chain-patterned wall and floor installations by architect Carlo Dal Bianco looked more like an opulent atelier than a tile showroom. “Mosaic has a noble past, going all the way back to Pompeii,” owner Piero Bisazza said. “The challenge is to make it relevant for contemporary homes, where design is becoming more like fashion.” The new location will feature not only colored tiles and pre-assembled mosaic panels, but also items from the Bisazza Home collection. That includes the 10 glass Marie Antoinette chandeliers displayed in the store (and shown here), as well as mosaic-tiled furniture and accessories. 8371 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles; (323) 782-9171; www.bisazza.com.
