City departments urged to submit lean budgets
From Times Staff Reports
In anticipation of decreased revenues and increased expenses next year, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday ordered department heads to submit “no-growth” budgets by Dec. 20.
The budgets, according to the mayor, should either match or come in below current fiscal year spending.
In a letter to City Administrative Officer Karen Sisson, Villaraigosa also instructed department heads to recommend 8% cuts in their budgets as a contingency measure.
The mayor plans to unveil his 2008-09 budget in April.
