From Times Wire Reports

Crews broke ground in Minneapolis on a 10-lane interstate bridge to replace one that collapsed Aug. 1, killing 13 people and drawing attention to the nation’s aging infrastructure.

The Interstate 35W bridge, one of the state’s busiest, fell during the evening rush hour, injuring about 100 in addition to the deaths. The contract for its replacement requires that it be completed by Dec. 24, 2008, although the builders can earn bonuses for finishing sooner.
