Taylor, King due at Troubadour

One of the engagements that made the Troubadour in West Hollywood one of the most prominent clubs in the pop-music world was the 1970 bill of James Taylor and Carole King, who were both on their way to stardom and leading roles in redefining the musical landscape.

Now the two longtime friends are planning to return to the club during the week after Thanksgiving to help it observe its 50th anniversary.

“We thought it would be a good occasion to get together,” Taylor said in an interview Monday. “We’re always talking about it and saying we’ve really got to do something, but if you don’t do it you never do it. This seemed like a great opportunity.”

Taylor said that they would be playing with the musicians who backed both of them in 1970, including guitarist Danny Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, and would try to re-create the set lists from those shows.

Troubadour representatives could not be reached to confirm dates, but the club’s calendar shows three available nights that week, on Nov. 27, 28 and 29.
