Westminster police sought the public’s help Wednesday in finding a robber who grabbed a woman’s purse and then dragged her more than 300 yards as he drove away.

The woman, who is hospitalized in critical condition, was walking through the parking lot of the ABC Supermarket at 8970 Bolsa Ave. on Monday afternoon when someone drove by and took her purse.

She held onto the bag and was dragged along while the motorist continued to drive through the lot, police said.

The woman, described as in her 30s, suffered severe injuries, police said. No other information on her was available.

“There’s confusion right now as to whether she held on because she was concerned about losing important documents in the bag, or if her arm was stuck through the handle,” said Det. Kevin MacCormick.

MacCormick said the incident occurred near a bank

“We’re not sure if this is related to other purse-snatchings. This one is unique because it happened outside of a bank and the victim didn’t let go of the purse,” he said.

The woman is suffering from road rash from the middle of her back to her feet, MacCormick said, and is missing a significant amount of skin on one heel because she was wearing sandals.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Westminster Police Department at (714) 898-3315, Ext. 340. Tips may be left anonymously.
