Von Sydow, acting to the Max

Share

I was truly gratified to read the article about Max von Sydow [“A Robust Film Career and Life After Bergman,” by Kevin Thomas, Nov. 18]. Why? Because I consider him to be the greatest film actor of all time. No matter what the role, Von Sydow imbues his characters with a sense of absolute reality; you never see Max von Sydow, you see the character. Whether in the iconic Bergman movies or “Three Days of the Condor,” this titan of the screen has such an astonishing range that it should make any actor hope to get even near his level of expertise.

My only wish is that I could meet this man and convey my gratitude for all the joy he has bestowed upon those of us who adore the art of film.
