Within a decade or so, we will see this graphic column as chillingly prophetic as we behold a landscape ravaged not just environmentally but socially, morally and politically. A foretaste: We have already sold our economy to China and turned consumerism into a national religion. We can still avoid the upcoming shopocalypse. Let us turn away from the mania of “shop till you drop” and substitute a creed that is far more humane and spiritually satisfying: “Consume less, live more.”
