The Dodgers went into the off-season quietly, looking lifeless in their final game, an 11-2 defeat to the last-place San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

The Dodgers once again used a lineup in which Juan Pierre was the lone player with more than two years of major league experience, and they were held to two runs and five hits over eight innings by Giants starter Barry Zito.

Dodgers starter Eric Stults was charged with six runs and 11 hits in four innings. He gave up five runs in the fourth, including two on a home run by 40-year-old Omar Vizquel.

Kevin Frandsen hit a two-run homer off D.J. Houlton as part of a three-run sixth inning that increased the Giants’ lead to 9-0.

Delwyn Young hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the Dodgers.

The Giants scored twice in the ninth on a two-run triple by Eugenio Velez.

Shortstop Rafael Furcal will undergo an MRI exam today on his sprained left ankle and utility infielder Tony Abreu’s strained abdominal region will be examined in Philadelphia on Tuesday by Dr. William Meyers.

Trainer Stan Conte said Furcal’s exam was precautionary, but that Abreu could be facing surgery.

Conte said that pitcher Jason Schmidt, who had season-ending shoulder surgery, could start throwing in November.

Takashi Saito is delaying his return home to Japan so that he can get his California driver’s license. Saito, who has driven for the last two years using an international license, said he wants a California license for identification purposes.

“The international license is big,” Saito said. “My teammates can pull their IDs out of their wallets when we’re at the airport, but I have to take mine out of my bag.”

Matt Kemp went three for four, raising his average to .342. In the Dodgers’ Los Angeles era, only Mike Piazza (.362 in 1997 and .346 in 1995) and Tommy Davis (.346, 1962) had higher averages among players with 300 or more player appearances. . . . Pierre, who isn’t known for his throwing arm, had two assists, doubling his season total.
