Fleming at Philharmonic gala

Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic open their new season this weekend, but first there’s a gala black-tie celebration tonight with opera star Renée Fleming, followed by dinner and dancing. She’ll sing Ravel’s “Shéhérazade” and two Puccini arias. Salonen will also conduct works by Berlioz and Boccherini. The high ticket price ($1,500 to $10,000) goes to support the Musicians Pension Fund and the Philharmonic’s educational and outreach programs.
The regular subscription series begins Friday with Salonen conducting Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7; Strauss’ autumnal, war-stunned meditation “Metamorphosen”; and a Bach fugue arranged by Luciano Berio.
Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., L.A. 7 tonight. $1,500 to $10,000. (213) 972-3051.
* Also: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 2 p.m. Sunday. $40 to $142. (323) 850-2000; wdch.laphil.com/tix/.
