Making a splash

On Sept. 29, Courteney Cox Arquette put in face time as host of a CelEBration on the Pier, sponsored by skin-care company Kinerase. But it was her hubby, 1. and 2. David Arquette, who really made a splash. Also manning up for dunk-tank duties: Balthazar Getty and Dermot Mulroney. James Marsden didn’t need a change of clothes; he stayed dry on the bumper-car track. 3. Adam Sandler, kidding around with daughter Sadie and wife Jackie, rode the roller coaster and tried his hand at the basketball toss booth. His “Click” costar, Kate Beckinsale, exited the Santa Monica Pier with an armful of stuffed-animal prizes, but the EB Medical Research Foundation was the real winner, taking home $150,000 to kick off awareness month for epidermolysis bullosa, a painful skin disease.

A beauty with plenty of support

Is 4. T.R. Knight, right, vying for a spot on “Ugly Betty”? Nah, last year’s host showed up to the Rape Treatment Center of Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center benefit last Sunday to lend support to this year’s hostess, America Ferrera, second from left. Also backing up the “Ugly Betty” babe: castmates Rebecca Romijn and Michael Urie. Emcee David Schwimmer, who serves on the board of directors for the organization, which offers free treatment to victims of sexual assault, gave props to the Emmy-winning star. In turn, Ferrera praised the women who spoke out at the brunch, held in a tented garden at Ron Burkle’s Greenacres estate in Beverly Hills.

In Hollywood, it’s out with the old and in with the new. An all-grown-up 5. Emmy Rossum cued up before catching Dita Von Teese’s burlesque act at Macy’s Passport Gala at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Sept. 27. That same night Hilary Duff, just one day shy of her 20th birthday, lived out the last of her days as teen royalty -- quite literally -- as host of City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award dinner in West Hollywood. Disney phenom Miley Cyrus was on hand to take the reins, as was Mouse House It Boy 6. Corbin Bleu. 7. Chris Brown signaled his arrival at Us’ Hot Hollywood party on Sept. 26, while fellow honoree 8. Cyrus blew kisses to her admirers outside club Opera.
