Train, bus collide, killing at least 28

A bus collided with a train in the eastern province of Granma, killing at least 28 people and injuring 73 others, including 15 reported to be in critical condition, state television said.

The bus was reportedly dragged by the train until it fell below a bridge. State TV showed images of a derailed train.

The collision occurred around noon in the town of Yara at a level railroad crossing about 400 miles east of Havana. The train was traveling from Santiago to Manzanillo.

Authorities were trying to determine what caused the collision, the country’s worst road accident since a truck overturned in June in eastern Cuba, killing 11 people and injuring 50.
