“The Game Plan” scored again, topping the charts for a second straight weekend despite three new wide releases in the marketplace and bolstering Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s credentials as a comedy star. The raunchy comedy “The Heartbreak Kid” and the fantasy “The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising” both came up far short of expectations in their openings and the musical “Feel the Noise” made little impact.

Outside the top 10, the legal thriller “Michael Clayton” averaged a robust $47,000 in its launch at 15 locations. The musical “Across the Universe,” the adventure “Into the Wild,” the romantic drama “Lust, Caution” and the artsy comedy “The Darjeeling Limited” held up well as they continued to expand. Industrywide totals were down for the third straight weekend.
