Area disaster relief and charitable organizations are looking for volunteers to help serve the growing ranks of evacuees at emergency shelters. The following is a short list of organizations seeking volunteers to help with those affected by wildfires.

American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles: “People can donate their time,” said Myra Jolivet, chief marketing officer for the Red Cross. “We always need help with servicing the needs of people who have been displaced.” She said volunteers can call the Red Cross at (310) 445-2676 or (310) 477-5785.

Salvation Army: Volunteers are also being sought by the Salvation Army’s divisional headquarters in San Diego, which covers San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties. Volunteers can call (619) 231-6000 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., said administrative assistant Kathi Kelly.

The Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: The society is asking clinics with spare veterinary beds to assist in boarding evacuated pets and livestock, said President Madeline Bernstein. Those with available beds can e-mail the society at information@spcala.com.

New Leash on Life: The animal rescue group is seeking help in caring for evacuated pets at its facility in Newhall, said volunteer coordinator Sally Smith. Those interested can call the group at (661) 255-0097.
