Hear ye, hear ye! As Queen Elizabeth 2, which may be the world’s best-known ocean liner, sails into the sunset next year, never fear: Its royal successor has been named. And it’s . . . the Queen Elizabeth. The $700-million liner, to be built in Italy and launched in 2010, will revive the name of Cunard Line’s storied vessel that ferried troops during World War II and, later, commercial passengers. At 92,000 gross tons, the new queen will be bigger than its namesake, the QE2 and Cunard’s new Queen Victoria, launching in December. But it will be dwarfed by Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, which measures 151,400 tons. As previously announced, the QE2 will make its final sail in November 2008 and later anchor off Dubai as a tourist attraction.
