Exxon Valdez: An article in Tuesday’s Section A about the Supreme Court’s decision to hear an appeal in the Exxon Valdez case incorrectly stated the sequence of previous court rulings. After a jury in Alaska imposed $5 billion in punitive damages, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a lower amount, and it was set at $4 billion. A judge later raised it to $4.5 billion, but the 9th Circuit Court again lowered it, to $2.5 billion.
