Dole salads may be contaminated

Dole Food Co., the world’s largest producer of fresh vegetables, is voluntarily recalling salads sold in the U.S. and Canada labeled “Hearts Delight” because of possible E. coli contamination. The recall affects 4,530 packages in the U.S. and 528 in Canada, said Marty Ordman, a spokesman for Westlake Village-based Dole.

No consumers have reported being sick, Dole said. The salads -- bearing a Sept. 19 expiration date -- were sold in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces in Canada and in Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and neighboring states in the U.S.

Welch Allyn Inc. recalled more than 1,700 automatic external defibrillators that may fail during rescue attempts, U.S. regulators said. The MRL/Welch Allyn AED 20 Automatic External Defibrillators were manufactured from October 2003 to January 2005, the Food and Drug Administration said.

Quong Hop & Co. of South San Francisco is recalling some tofu products because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria is a microorganism that can cause serious or fatal infections in children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company. The recall includes all packages of Soy Deli tofu coded Dec. 17, 2007. It also includes three products coded Sept. 23, 2007: the 30-ounce Soy Deli nigari tofu, 12-ounce Soy Deli water pack tofu and 16-ounce Quong Hop water pack tofu. Bravo LCC is recalling tubes of frozen cat and dog food because of a potential bacterial contamination. The recall includes various-sized tubes of Bravo Original Formula Chicken Blend frozen raw food and 2-pound tubes of Bravo Basic Formula Finely Ground Chicken frozen raw food, because they could be tainted with salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The original formula chicken was produced Aug. 24 and the finely ground chicken was made Aug. 14. The company also is recalling various-sized tubes of Bravo Original Formula Turkey Blend frozen raw food because they could be tainted with listeria. It was made Aug. 24.
