KEYS TO THE GAME

Share

Gary Klein’s keys to the game and how USC measured up:

1. Meet Locker. USC limited Washington quarterback Jake Locker to 50 rushing yards in 18 carries. The redshirt freshman completed only 13 of 28 passes for 90 yards with an interception. USC quarterback John David Booty overthrew several passes and finished 20 of 37 for 236 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

2. Balancing act. Sophomore tailback Stafon Johnson rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries but suffered a foot injury. Chauncey Washington gained 106 yards in 21 carries and scored a touchdown. The Huskies totaled 100 rushing yards.

3. Environmental impact. USC did not seem bothered by the light rain, but the Trojans’ turnovers and penalties allowed Washington to stay close and the crowd noise became a factor.
