at Boston 4, New York 3: Manny Ramirez hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to give the Red Sox the lead, and Josh Beckett yielded only one questionable hit in the first five innings and five hits in all in 6 2/3 innings. The game was delayed 2 hours 11 minutes with Yankees on first and second and two out in the eighth. When play resumed, Jonathan Papelbon struck out Alex Rodriguez. Papelbon struck out two more in a perfect ninth for his fourth save in four tries.

Oakland 7, at Cleveland 3: The Athletics took advantage of 10 walks by Indians pitchers. They held off swinging at starter Fausto Carmona’s sinker, which dipped out of the zone and resulted in a career-high eight walks in 3 1/3 innings. Bobby Crosby’s three-run homer capped a four-run seventh off reliever Rafael Perez.

Baltimore 3, at Tampa Bay 2: Ramon Hernandez hit a tie-breaking solo homer with two out in the ninth inning to lead the Orioles. Evan Longoria, taken third overall in the 2006 draft by Tampa Bay, went one for three with a walk in his major league debut. He pulled the Rays to within 2-1 with his first career hit, a single to left in the sixth.

Toronto 4, at Texas 1: Roy Halladay pitched a six-hitter, and Aaron Hill drove in three runs and the Blue Jays won for only the fifth time in their last 21 games at Arlington, Texas. Marlon Byrd broke up Halladay’s shutout bid with an RBI double with one out in the ninth inning.

Minnesota 2, at Kansas City 0: Since scoring a run Thursday night in a 6-1 loss to the Yankees, the Royals have gone 26 innings without scoring. Jason Kubel hit a solo homer off Brett Tomko in the third inning. Tomko gave up six hits and two runs in six-plus innings.

at Chicago 7, Detroit 0: Gavin Floyd is 2-0 with a 1.71 earned-run average in four starts against the Tigers since last September.

at Seattle 8, Angels 3: Gary Matthews Jr. grounded into three double plays.
