Elections: An article in the April 13 Opinion section about pollster Mark Penn said that Bill Clinton had won his second term with an “overwhelming majority.” In fact, Clinton won in 1996 without a majority of the popular vote. He received 49% of the vote compared with Bob Dole’s 41% and Ross Perot’s 8%. In the electoral college, Clinton won with 379 electoral votes to Dole’s 159.
