Official not guilty in perjury case
A jury Wednesday found Chula Vista Councilman Steve Castaneda not guilty of six of 10 perjury counts involving allegations that he lied to a county grand jury about his dealings with a real estate developer. The jury was unable to decide on the four remaining counts; Superior Court Judge William Kennedy declared a mistrial on those counts.
Castaneda, who has accused the district attorney’s office of a political witch hunt, is running for reelection. The district attorney will decide whether to retry Castaneda on the four undecided counts.
