Film industry exec, Deluxe Lab president

Burton “Bud” Stone, 80, a film industry executive who was president of Deluxe Laboratories from 1978 to 1994, died April 18 at his home in Los Angeles, Deluxe announced.

Stone was born in Englewood, N.J., in 1927.

His father, James, was an engineer at a motion picture lab during the silent-film era.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, Stone attended Florida Southern College, graduating in 1951.

He went to work as an assistant film editor in New York, then took a series of management jobs at several film labs before opening his own company, Allservice Film Laboratories. He joined Deluxe in 1976 and became president two years later.

Stone received the John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors in 1996 for his “outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high standards of the Academy.”
