Team is the fixer-upper

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Frank McCourt’s interest in the Dodgers would center on the parking lot.

It was interesting to hear that the Dodgers are going to expand the stadium to include a promenade, restaurants and a museum. Perhaps the museum could display some historic artifacts from the last time the team was good.

The McCourts have taken all the fun out of going to a Dodgers game, but I suppose if they continue to make these announcements they can draw the fans’ attention away from the fact that their team is in last place.

I noticed in the artist’s rendering of the proposed redesign of Dodger Stadium that there was a building called the Dodger Dog Cafe. Before this new structure is built, may I suggest to the McCourts that they improve on their cold and barely grilled Dodger Dogs so not to mislead the fans when selling those $12 dogs (the asking price, I’m sure, by 2012).

Frank McCourt’s vision of a Dodger Stadium mall may seem wondrous at first to attract inquisitive city residents and make fans arrive early and stay later after games, but does he forget there are 10 “minor” things that render those grandiose plans obsolete?

1. The Grove. 2. Marina del Rey. 3. Fielding yet another non-playoff team. 4. Tommy’s on Beverly and Rampart. 5. Hollywood and Highland. 6. Santa Monica Promenade. 7. Universal CityWalk. 8. Getty/L.A. County Museums. 9. Melrose. 10. At least 100 other points of interest in L.A. County.

The plans for Dodger Stadium’s remodel look nice. Unfortunately, it won’t change the fact that much of their fan base is simply not family friendly, and turning the place into CityWalk will only make that problem worse. I can’t take my child to games anymore, because we’re inevitably seated in front of a group of rowdy people there only to drink beer and scream obscenities at Juan Pierre (who is a class act). It’s just not a nice crowd.

I love the Dodgers, but I much prefer to take in a game at Angel Stadium, or even Petco Park. Less obnoxious fans. More fun.

One positive aspect about the Dodgers’ $500-million plans for stadium renovations: It will most likely prevent Ned Colletti from signing Andruw Jones to a contract extension.

So now Andruw Jones tells us his bones hurt, that he has the flu and allergies.

We can see that he has the flu. For 20 games now, his foot flu open, his shoulder flu open, and his head and eyes flu off the ball. At the plate, he looks allergic to the ball.
