Resident troupe at La Jolla

Share

San Diego’s Mo’olelo Performing Arts Company will be the first resident theater company of La Jolla Playhouse’s new Resident Theatre Program.

The company, whose name is the Hawaiian word for “story,” will be in residence at the playhouse Aug. 18 through Sept. 21 and May 12 through June 14, 2009. Founded by Kim Palma and artistic director Seema Sueko, the performing arts company’s mission is to create new theatrical works based on research within various communities and to produce lesser-known works by noted playwrights.

In the fall, Mo’olelo will bring Susan Yankowitz’s “Night Sky” to the playhouse. Produced in partnership with the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, the play deals with the communication disorder aphasia.

The playhouse plans to bring a different company to the theater each year. It also may consider other performing arts besides theater.
