Find fresh ideas to battle hate

Re “Crimes rooted in hatred increase,” July 25

After reading about hate crimes in Los Angeles County, one would think nothing ever changes. I left the Anti-Defamation League as an employee more than five years ago, but the same people are quoted today spouting the same old rhetoric. The only somewhat original thought -- from the Rev. Eric P. Lee of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles -- is completely absurd: praying to prevent hate crimes.

It’s time we look to community leadership for innovative opinions. Organizations such as Community Advocates should be given a voice so that we can hear a rational, thoughtful and effective approach to reducing and preventing hate crime.
