Fugitive arrested in 1996 slaying

A long-missing fugitive suspected of killing a Riverside girl nearly a decade ago has been extradited to Murrieta, authorities said.

Crispin Solorio Garcia, 28, was accused of stabbing Sophia Briseno, then 13, in 1996, said Lt. Dennis Vrooman of the Murrieta Police Department. Garcia fled to Mexico immediately after the slaying, according to the FBI. He was discovered by FBI agents and Mexican officials in a jail in Morelia in Michoacan where he was being held on suspicion of attempted robbery last year.

Garcia’s extradition was delayed because of his trial in Mexico. A second suspect, Francisco Gonzalez Ochoa, is still missing, Vrooman said.
