Death sentence for ex-president
From Times Wire Services
A Chadian court sentenced a former president and 11 rebels to death for crimes against the state, an official said.
A commission of inquiry concluded that former President Hissen Habre killed tens of thousands of opponents during his eight years in power. He was ousted in 1990.
Habre is living in exile in Senegal, where he also is awaiting trial on charges of torture and murder. Senegal is unlikely to extradite him.
