Story captures theater’s drama

As the author and lyricist of “Footloose,” I was naturally drawn to the headline “Footloose on Broadway” [Aug. 10]. I started reading, unprepared for the terrific story that Christopher Reynolds had to tell -- and the way that my (and my collaborators’ work) would weave in and out of the journey undertaken by these students from Verdugo Hills.

Thank you for a wonderful piece, filled with its promise of the spirit, excitement and uplift that got me into this business in the first place.

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed “Footloose on Broadway.” As I recently returned from my first trip to New York, I relived the fabulous moments and similar experiences as these students. After dreaming of going to New York most of my life, at 53 I finally got my chance. (On the inside, we are all 18, aren’t we?)

I traveled with a friend whose daughter is in “Grease” on Broadway. We went to five Broadway shows and two backstage tours. (Knowing a cast member helps.). I was just as thrilled and excited to be on Broadway and around New York, as these students were. It was a great xperience, and I can’t wait to go back.
