LAPD officer accused of attempted rape
A Los Angeles police officer was arrested Sunday in connection with an alleged attempted rape after a department-sanctioned holiday celebration at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport, police said.
Officer Eduardo Bermudez, 29, of the Pacific Area Patrol Division, was arrested about 8 a.m. Sunday by LAPD Internal Affairs detectives and booked into Los Angeles County Jail on a charge of attempted rape. He’s being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Based on preliminary information, police said the alleged assault took place at an unofficial “after party” at the hotel that was attended by several department employees. When a complaint of criminal activity came to light, police said, proper notifications were made and on-duty supervisors and Internal Affairs investigators were sent to the hotel.
Bermudez is a two-year veteran of the department and was off-duty at the time of the alleged assault.
The department’s Pacific area includes Westchester, Venice, Palms and Mar Vista.
