Support for Measure A
Re “Now the funding begins,” editorial, Dec. 5
I can’t believe The Times claimed that the 66.27% vote in favor of Proposition A was a message that people did not support the measure.
Measure A was placed on the ballot not by politicians but because mothers from all over Los Angeles begged us to help them keep their kids out of gangs and prevent any more needless deaths.
More than 700,000 voters agreed that it is better to invest in after-school and job-training programs than in jails and prosecution. They agreed that there is hope for our young people if only we give them real alternatives to joining gangs. And they understood that we need money to do just that.
Mothers who have lost their children to gang violence should be encouraged by this tremendous show of support. It is ridiculous to argue that 66.27% voting in favor of a proposition sends a message of opposition.
