First, it’s crazy nails

EMI recording artist Katy Perry may have grown up in Santa Barbara, but she is now an avowed lover of Los Angeles. The “I Kissed a Girl” singer will be the belle of the ball at Gridlock New Year’s Eve, a large event taking place Thursday at Paramount’s back lot on Melrose Avenue, where she will perform a few of her hits and even countdown to the new year with Hollywood’s party set.

After ringing in the new year, here is where you might see Perry this winter -- before, that is, she hits the road again for another headlining tour (she begins her 2009 jaunt in Seattle Jan. 23 and rolls through Los Angeles Jan. 31 for an engagement at the Wiltern).

Nailing Friday night down

If I had a spare weekend, which I haven’t had in a really long time, I’d probably start out by getting a manicure on Friday evening. I’d get crazy rainbow-striped leopard print nails, and there’s only one place that does it, its called CT Nails and they have two stores. Then I’d probably meet up with my friends for dinner at Magnolia. I’m obsessed with their salad.

It’s really easy for my friends and me to go to a club or hot spot, which I don’t like to do so much anymore, but I still like to go to [live] shows. I love the Hotel Cafe, because that’s where I started and that’s where you can expect the unexpected. There are lots of different acts; it’s kind of like the new Largo, and they’ve got a great bar where all your local friends are at.

Saturday at Shareen’s

On Saturdays, usually I’m a little hung over. I like to head downtown to Shareen’s Vintage. It’s pretty consistent for me. I also go to Motherplucker -- it’s a feather store, but it’s more than that. . . . You can make headpieces and ornaments, so you can pick your own little thing and have it made there.

After shopping, I’d have a late lunch at Dusty’s in Silver Lake. I like the huevos rancheros there. . . . It’s good hangover food. Sometimes, I like to get a spa treatment or something after a hard Friday night out. I usually get facials at Ole Henriksen. There’s this gal there named Maki and she’s amazing. And it’s very unfortunate because I’ll never be able to get another appointment with her after this!

Saturday night is super low-key. It takes a lot to get me out on a Saturday night, and usually I’m having a dinner party or ordering in. But if I do go out, I might hit up a non-hot spot. Any night that you want to have a drink, and not have it be too scene-y, I think Bar Marmont always works. It’s on Sunset, but it doesn’t get all the riff-raff. The Bar on Bronson and Sunset is always fun too.

Sundays: social but mellow

On Sunday morning, I usually hit up the Fairfax flea market, or I get a paper and prepare to go to estate sales in the morning. Then [my friends and I] run around all over L.A. and it’s like “so-and-so died and her whole life is there, so come and get it.”

Later on, I like to have dinner at La Poubelle. It’s the kind of place that you can go with one friend, and everybody ends up meeting, or you see someone there that you haven’t seen in months that you totally want to see.

I try to go to movies on Sunday night. I go to the ArcLight, or the Laemmle. I know everyone says ArcLight, but coming from the Santa Barbara area, going to regular theaters, and all of a sudden you get this experience.
