Bad ingredients all around

Regarding the story “Noted restaurateur’s recipe for disaster,” Dec. 24:

People like Nancy Silverton will get no sympathy from people like me. Her own words show that it was all about greed. She knew something wasn’t right. “The returns I saw on paper were so lucrative, I thought, ‘I’ll take care of it someday. . . . I’ll do it next month,’ ” she said, referring to paying attention to her investments.

My sympathy is for the people who will lose their jobs because Silverton was greedy.

Welcome to the real world.

Regarding the How I Made It feature on Jay “Sparky” Longley Jr., “No to flimsy flip-flops,” Dec. 21:

Of interest to me was the mention of how he had to move production of his flip-flops to China because California had put a cap on his production levels because of smog rules -- this at the same time when he had received a huge order from Nordstrom.

The unfortunate fact is that this is the case for so many California businesses and is a big reason a state that ranks in size as a major world market can lead the nation with a higher unemployment rate.

Expect California’s job situation to get worse as the population grows and the jobs are moved out of state because of the continued negative business climate.
