Re “Report faults Kaiser as slow to act,” Jan. 26

How often have we witnessed the priorities of a health management company being the coverup of neglect and incompetence instead of the protection of patients it is sworn to care for? For U.S. inspectors to say a better response was needed is to ignore the patient’s expectation of and right to capable care by a competent physician. There is something wrong and damning when a physician who is expected to perform at a high level needs to be “accompanied during rounds” or “monitored by another physician.” Healthcare organizations must demand a level of ability that ensures the safety of those who trust us to heal them. It is a failure of the system when greed and stupidity surmount quality of care.
