The Times’ endorsements

These editorials mark the Los Angeles Times’ first endorsements in a presidential campaign since 1972. We chose to resume endorsing out of the same conviction that infuses the rest of our work -- that society benefits from civil discourse and that editorials help stimulate that conversation. These endorsements, like all of our editorials, are the work of The Times’ editorial board, a group of writers and editors independent of the paper’s news operation. In recent weeks, the board met with each of the major candidates from both parties as we formulated these endorsements. I head that board, and it is overseen by Publisher David D. Hiller.
