ABC began looking forward to a scripted post-strike era on Monday when the network announced early pickups for the 2008-09 season.

Its established hit shows -- “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Ugly Betty” and “Brothers & Sisters” -- were all renewed, as expected. Also on the list were the first-year series “Samantha Who?,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Pushing Daisies” and the “Grey’s” spinoff, “Private Practice.”

The announcement leaves the fates of “Men in Trees,” “Boston Legal” and “October Road” up in the air, as well as the futures of first-year shows “Eli Stone,” “Women’s Murder Club,” “Carpoolers” and “Cashmere Mafia.”

Over on NBC, the network announced that it would begin casting for a sixth season of the weight-loss reality series “The Biggest Loser.”
