“Marionettes are incredibly complex structures,” says Holly Jerger, the Craft and Folk Art Museum’s director of public programs. “Even so, you can create really lively creatures with basic materials like cardboard tubes and fabric,” continues Jerger, who will be co-conducting the museum’s “Spring & String: Simple Marionettes” workshop. “You won’t just make a puppet; you’ll learn how to animate it, even if it only has one string.” In conjunction with the Mythical Creatures puppet showcase, the workshop guides youngsters from scissors and glue to the stage. 1:30 p.m. Sat., 5814 Wilshire Blvd., Miracle Mile. $6. RSVP to workshops @cafam.org. (323) 937-4230; www .cafam.org
