Need to monitor terror suspects
Re “The invasion of America,” Opinion, Feb. 18
Andrew Napolitano’s argument that foreign terrorists are entitled to protections under the 4th Amendment is absurd. Lucky for us, federal courts have rejected his theories.
He echoes arguments made by Democrats in the House that effectively monitoring foreign terrorists and protecting the rights of Americans are incompatible.
Earlier this month, the Senate adopted a bipartisan bill that would last for six years; House Democrats, however, refused to vote on this bill, deciding instead to allow crucial authority to monitor terrorists to simply expire.
We should not hamstring our intelligence agencies in monitoring communications of terrorists abroad. The tools used by the intelligence community must be as real and rapidly deployed as any looming threat.
