From Times Wire Reports

Northern Illinois University students returned to campus to get on with their classes, even as a deadly shooting rampage remained fresh in their minds.

University President John G. Peters said a memorial at the school’s Convocation Center -- attended by more than 12,000 people -- marked the end of the school community’s mourning period.

Former university graduate student Steve Kazmierczak opened fire on students on Valentine’s Day -- killing five and wounding 16 -- before committing suicide.
