Google Inc.’s hiring of a former Justice Department official as its senior privacy lawyer prompted a lawsuit by the nonprofit Electronic Frontier Foundation, which wants to know more about her selection.
Jane Horvath was appointed in 2006 as the Justice Department’s first chief privacy and civil liberties officer, according to the complaint. She left 18 months later to join Internet search giant Google.
While in office, Horvath was critical of a Justice Department subpoena of Mountain View, Calif.-based Google.
