Homeless shelter repairs to resume
Donations to Isaiah House, a Catholic Worker-sponsored shelter for the homeless that was the focus of a recent Times article have topped more than $125,000, enough to continue renovation and hopefully reopen the facility soon.
“Work is progressing on the site,” said Scott Larson, executive director for HomeAid of Orange County, a nonprofit for the Building Industry Assn., handling renovation work.
Work on Isaiah House had temporarily stopped because volunteer contractors who have been hit hard by a mortgage meltdown and industry lull that have left many unemployed, had to abandon the job.
The house was 80% finished but needed at least $100,000 to hire painters and other workers to complete the job in April.
