Boeing sells part of Anaheim site

Boeing Co. has sold 61 acres of its historic Anaheim defense facility to developers who plan to build a $350-million business park, the buyers said Wednesday.

New York-based real estate investment firm ING Clarion Group and Panattoni Development Co. of Sacramento bought the property as part of a plan announced by the aerospace company in 2006 to move 3,700 employees from Anaheim to Huntington Beach.

The property was part of a 103-acre facility owned by Chicago-based Boeing that was the birthplace of the guidance systems for the world’s first nuclear submarine and developed components for the manned space program. It boasted 36,000 workers at its Cold War peak.

The new owners plan to redevelop their portion of the former defense plant into low-rise offices, industrial and retail facilities.
