Google unit to donate $25 million

Google Inc.’s philanthropic arm announced $25 million in grants and investments to help fight disease, improve global health and security and develop plans to combat climate change.

The investments are the first of many that Google.org will pursue in the next five to 10 years, the Mountain View, Calif., company said.

Among the grants was were $10 million to ESolar Inc., a solar-power company in Pasadena, and $5 million to the Innovative Support to Emergencies, Diseases and Disasters effort.
