A monumental photo

Re “His final homecoming,” Jan. 16

Thank you for finally having a photo on your front page that shows a grieving family with a flag-draped casket. The war in Iraq has been going on nearly five years and, finally, a photo of an all-too-frequent, heartbreaking event in our country. What took you so long?

The Times is to be commended for printing on Page 1 a photograph that should be named picture of the year and displayed all over America. It is a picture of a wife and a mother greeting the casket of a soldier who died in the Iraq war. The postures of the women show just what we are getting in return for all that we are giving in Iraq.
